Description
Mounted in a picture frame: the informal certificate (glued into the passe-partout, damaged by the attached Iron Cross 2nd Class) for the Iron Cross 2nd Class, dated April 6, 1941, with the ink signature of Commander Kurt Weyher. War Badges for Auxiliary Cruisers (swastika removed) and for Minesweepers, each in unsigned non-ferrous metal. Seaman's book with photograph dated April 2, 1936, containing numerous entries, including information on the steamer "Kurmark," later the auxiliary cruiser "Orion." The sailor's documents, such as the ship's newspaper, a record of sailing hours, and certificates from the steamer "Kurmark." Copies of the award documents for the badges are enclosed. Over 200 photographs, mostly of the auxiliary cruiser "Orion," including images of sunken ships, onboard photographs, an AR 196 aircraft, and maritime life. The auxiliary cruiser undertook one of the longest war patrols, lasting 500 days and covering 127,000 nautical miles.
