Description
Rare winter version of the Luftwaffe pilot/aircrew so-called “Kanalhose” (Channel trousers), developed during the early stages of the war to provide aircrew with essential survival equipment while operating over hostile territory or open water. These specialized trousers were designed with multiple functional pockets intended to carry emergency items such as a flare pistol, signal flares, rescue knife, emergency rations, signal flag, and other survival gear in case of a forced landing or ditching. Originally introduced around the time of the Battle of Britain, the design continued to see service with Luftwaffe aircrews on various fronts throughout the war. This example is constructed from sheepskin, representing the winterized variant intended for colder operating conditions. The pocket configuration follows the standard pattern with cloth-lined compartments identical to those used on the regular issue versions. The trousers are unlabelled but clearly stamped with size "50". All zippers and press studs are present and fully functional. The sheepskin remains supple with only light signs of wear consistent with careful use. Overall, a very well-preserved and lightly worn pair of Luftwaffe flight trousers in very good collectible condition.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
