Description

Privately procured French-style motorcycle jacket in brown leather, tailored from supple, medium-weight hide with fitted waist. Zippered front, sleeve cuffs and chest pockets. Brown cotton lining. Jackets of this type are well documented in contemporary photographs and were frequently worn by Luftwaffe fighter pilots stationed along the Channel coast around 1940 during the early phase of the air war against Britain. As a privately purchased garment, details vary, but the characteristics were particularly popular among flying personnel.
