A Waffen SS open service tunic for a veterinarian in the rank of SS Obersturmführer

Description
Privately purchased item, made in the Netherlands circa 1941, typical SS design in field-grey gabardine, the quality befitting an officer. The collar edged in silver cord, collar patches for an SS Obersturmführer, stitched by hand. Hand-sewn SS runes in metal thread. Matte shoulder boards sewn in place with gilt rank stars, crimson service colour for veterinarians, underlaid in black. The officer's breast eagle on the left sleeve, also hand-embroidered in metal thread and sewn on by hand, below the sleeve lozenge for officers in the veterinary service. The right sleeve with the Honour Chevron for the Old Guard in field-grey issue. A small field orders clasp with his awards on the left breast pocket: Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords and German Horseman's Badge in bronze. All insignia with the original stitching. Lined in pale brown cloth, typical of Dutch production, the tailor's label „H.-J. Janssen Tailleur Civil Militair - Tel.: 3906 - s-Bosch” in the inside pocket. Unfortunately, the wearer's name is no longer legible, „s-Bosch” stands for the Dutch town of s-Hertogenbosch. Complete with all aluminium buttons, marked „Extra Fein. The service tunic obviously used with marked signs of wear. In untouched condition, as found.
