Oskar Martin-Amorbach (1897 - 1987) - "After the Bath"

Orders and Military Collectibles from 1919 onwards | A108r | Live auction | 1467 Lots

Description

Tempera on wood. Somewhat illegible signature "O. Martin Amorbach" on the lower left. Framed 62.5 x 56 cm. Minimal colour chippings, crack, otherwise well preserved. Martin-Amorbach probably executed this painting simultaneously with his work "Country Beauty", which was presented at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich in 1940 (full-page catalogue depiction on plate 33, serial no. 752 - hall 29). Picture composition, furniture, various objects, and a cat are visible as reflections. Between 1937 and 1942, ten of the artist's oil paintings were displayed at the Great German Art Exhibition. In 1938, Hitler paid 12,000 RM for another pastoral painting by Martin-Amorbach, who received the title of professor in 1939. In 1939 - 40 he was drafted as a war painter.
