Erich Kips (1869–1945) was a highly successful German painter who studied in Berlin and Karlsruhe. A detailed biography and account of his achievements would far exceed the scope of this text. At the 1893 World's Fair, Kips worked alongside Otto Lessing on the German section and created, among other works, a ceiling painting of Germania, commissioned by Adolf Wermuth. Also in the 1890s, he painted the interior of the new Prussian Parliament building. Among his numerous art teachers were the renowned French artists William Adolphe Bouguereau and Eugène Girardet. He also received a second-class gold medal for his work exhibited at the 11th International Art Exhibition in the Glass Palace. From 1940 to 1942, four of his paintings were featured at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
