Description

Oil on canvas and stretcher. Idyllic scene featuring a farmer and son on horseback, the farmer's wife with a foal by a pond, a goat and kid in the foreground, the farmhouse in the background. The back of the canvas presumably signed "Jul. P. Junghanns", below which a later (Catalogue raisonné) number "No. 17". In a gilt frame, a plaque on the lower edge reading "J.P.Junghanns". Size of the painting 50 x 60.5 cm, size of the frame 62 x 72.5 cm. Between 1939 and 1943, Junghanns showed 20 paintings at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich. An almost identical painting entitled "Summer Evening" was acquired by Hitler in 1939.
