Ridged iron breastplate (occasional traces of nickel plating, small dents, pitting in places). A border of non-ferrous metal rivets around the nickel-plated edge, same design on the backplate. The chinscales in reddish, non-ferrous metal on leather underlay (minor defects in places, detached from the metal at the base). The officer's issue clasps with appliquéd oak leaves in relief (two small cracks at the bottom right), silver lion's heads on the hinges, the bandolier hook on the left. Lined in quilted white silk (darkened and stained), black and white facing around the edges. Old waist strap in blackened leather. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age and wear.
