Description

Depot piece with matching numbers. The front and back section made of black lacquered sheet steel (the paint finish refreshed some time ago), the edges trimmed in red woollen cord. The trophy of the breast shield introduced in 1912 in the issue for enlisted men screw-mounted on the breast. The brass scale bands with leather underlay and belt with a brass pin buckle. Lined in fine, unbleached linen (darkened), both front and back sections with beautiful depot issue stamps „GdC, 1897, 4. E I” and wearer's label stitched into the back „Garde du Corps Schönemann 4. Esk. Regt. G. d. C Waffen-Nr. 97”. Marginally damaged in places, signs of age and wear. In 1897, Kaiser Wilhelm II presented the elite regiment with new, black cuirasses in an elegant design, which followed the tradition of the 1814 models. A rare find, particularly in this outstanding condition.
