Heavy construction. Sturdy, single-edged blade, lavishly etched and with fullers on both sides (tarnished, stained), both sides of the upper half embellished with gilt ornaments (abraded) of trophies and tendrils, including the maker's mark „J. A. Henckels Solingen" and "Eisenhauer Schlagfrei". Knuckle-bow hilt in gilt, non-ferrous metal with relief decoration (abraded) with two kidney-shaped guard plates engraved with the dedication „Die Offiziere des 2ten Bataillons 18ten Infanterie Regiments ihrem scheidenden Kommandeur Liegnitz den 9 t(en) Maerz 1853" and the officers' names von Hann, Beneckendorf von Hindenburg (presumably a family member of the later Reichspräsident), von Both, von Sebottendorff etc. on the reverse. Grip with finger rest and silver wire winding (tarnished, loose). Black leather scabbard (the surface rough, some abraded areas re-blackened, a few small cracks) with smooth non-ferrous metal mountings (remnants of gilding). Slightly damaged in places, signs of age and wear. Length 105 cm.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
