Description

Zinc with a brown patina (rubbed), unsigned, on an oval plinth, mounted on a flat, black lacquered wooden pedestal (heavily rubbed). The Grand Duke in uniform on horseback with Mecklenburg officer's spiked helmet and overcoat. Realistic reproduction of the subject's facial features, excellent anatomy of the horse. The detailed, lifelike horseman figure in good condition. The reins torn on the right, the left spur incomplete, occasional small cracks, a solder seam on the top of the right boot. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age and wear. Dimensions approx. 50 x 20 x 50 cm. This sculptural masterpiece corresponds to the equestrian monument of Friedrich Franz II in Schwerin, which was completed in 1892 according to the design of sculptor Ludwig Brunow and ceremoniously inaugurated on 24 August 1893 in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
