Description
Oval convex plaque in patinated, non-ferrous metal with six solid brass screws on the sides for attachment to the gun barrel. Lavish, raised trophy decoration of an oval shield and crossed flags with the crescent moon at the top, cannon barrels, spears, sabres etc., tendrils and medals. The „Thugra" (inscription of the Sultan) for Abdülmecid I (1839 - 1861) in the centre of a sunburst at the top. The gun barrel appliqué (15 x 11 cm) mounted on a black lacquered, wooden shield, shaped like a coat of arms. Height 23.5 cm, abraded. Showing traces of age and use. Rare artefact of historical interest, attesting to the fierce battles in the Crimea between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire with its allies.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
