Description
Oil on canvas. Signed lower left “Hassenteufel.” A semi-nude depiction of a dancer with raised arms against a landscape background; softly rendered flesh tones and an atmospheric landscape. Through the figure’s backward-leaning posture and the sweeping lines, the composition emphasizes a dynamic yet decorative and stylized interpretation of the figure. Framed in a profiled, gilded frame with slight signs of wear typical of its age. Painting in good condition for its age. Uniform age-related craquelure over the entire paint layer; appears stable with no visibly loose paint. Isolated small, localized irregularities in the paint application and minimal surface soiling. No clearly discernible major losses or overpainting. Painting dimensions 95.5 x 70.8 cm, frame dimensions 111 x 86 cm. Hans Hassenteufel was a German portrait, nude, and still-life painter. He studied under Rudolf Zeller in Hamburg, at Walter Thor’s painting school in Munich, and under Peter Halm and Franz von Stuck at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Hassenteufel specialized in depictions of female figures, often in Oriental or Mediterranean costumes.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
