Oil on canvas, mounted. A half-length portrait of a young man in a dignified pose, looking directly at the viewer. The subject wears a red frock coat richly embroidered in gold, with ornate trimmings and cuffs, as well as a dark neckerchief. The light, evenly powdered hairstyle with volume sweeping out to the sides corresponds to the types of wigs common in the courtly context of the 18th century. The neutral background in muted brown and green tones dispenses with architectural elements, directing the focus to the subject’s features and attire. The painter's execution of the oeuvre reveals a nuanced rendering of the fabric’s texture, particularly in the gold-ornamented areas, which are modeled with relief-like brushwork and glazed transitions. The clothing and depiction suggest a formal portrait of a member of the upper class and conform to portrait conventions common in Central European painting of the mid-18th century. In a profiled wooden frame with a gilded surface, showing wear and minor dents due to age and use. Extensive, age-related craquelure, particularly in the dark areas. The paint layer is generally stable, with no open cracks or major losses. Visibly aged varnish with uneven gloss levels as well as fine signs of wear and scratches. The canvas is lined and stretched on a secondary stretcher. Size of painting 81 x 65.5 cm, size of frame 84.5 x 68.8 cm.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
