Description
Sturdy, slightly curved, single-edged blade (slightly notched) with a double-edged point. Single fullers on both sides, extending into double and triple grooves, interspersed with petal-shaped etchings. Delicate, engraved scenes on both sides, featuring the ancient heroes Paris, Hiparis, Alorius and Hannibal, above which two other allegorical figures, inscribed "Hiparis" and "Aloris". Depiction of the sun and moon in the etchings, along with fine baroque floral decoration. Monogrammed "MM" on the obverse root of the blade. Straight iron quillons, the ends extending into stylised deer hooves. The inset guard plate on the obverse has been lost. Staghorn grip with six domed iron rivets on the front. Iron pommel plate with chiselled decoration. Length 73.5 cm.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
