Description

Finely crafted ram's head made of coarse-grained marble. The anatomical details like the ram's head with its eyes, nostrils and mouth are stylishly and finely crafted. The ears set on the posterior horns. The horns curving upwards from below, the tips covering the base of the ears. The tips of the horns broken away, otherwise intact. Behind the horns, a section of neck is cut vertically at the back. A square perforation in the centre of this cut surface to attach the head. Beautiful, polished surface, the colour evenly distributed. Length 10.5 cm. Attractive small Greek sculpture, wrought with excellent craftsmanship.

Provenance: Belgian private collection, acquired via Michael Zeller auction house in 2008.
