A Dreyse needle-fire pistol, prototype, 1849

Description
Matching numbers. Barrel length 23 cm, bright, rifled bore with 4 grooves in Cal. 15.5 mm. The entire gun professionally reworked, barrel and trigger guard reblued, bolt and receiver polished, with some minor pitting. Front and rear sights nitre-blued. The left side of the receiver marked "N.Dreyse Soemmerda / 1849" and serial number "2" (also found on most bolt heads). The needle intact and fully functional. Walnut stock with fine checkering, on the back an attachment iron for a shoulder stock, unlocked by a little lever behind the trigger guard. An article in the German magazine DWJ, Dec. '24 edition, describes this pistol in detail (copy attached, in German language). Extremely rare! While the style of the stock convinced Reckendorf that this pistol be a non-military gun, it might well be one of a few trial pistols with which Dreyse unsuccessfully competed against what was to become the last Prussian percussion pistol, the M1850.Condition: I - II Questions about the lot?
