Description

Ink and pencil on architect's paper. Scale of 1:5000, labelled "SS Wewelsburg" in the top right-hand corner, the lower right-hand corner dated "Wewelsburg, den 23. April 1941" with the original signature "Bartels" and note "SS-Obersturmbannführer - Baurat". The legend on the left, listing the buildings numbered from 1 to 15, such as "1 Sportplatz, Turnhalle, Kaserne", "6 Kraftwerk", or "14 HJ-Heim". Dimensions 89 x 160 cm, rolled up. In outstanding condition with minor damage/tears on the edges. As early as 1933, Himmler appointed Hermann Bartels (1900 - 1989) as the architect responsible for remodelling Wewelsburg Castle. By 1941, two administrative buildings had been built. However, the major reconstruction included plans to relocate the village of Wewelsburg, as can clearly be seen in the draft, so as to construct a new castle complex in a large circle around the castle.
