The body made of stag antler. The obverse depicting an armour-clad knight in deep relief, the Jerusalem cross on his shield. Surmounted by two putti, inscribed "HERTZOG GOTFRIDT" on the underside. A small replacement with loss on the upper edge. Iron mountings with a double spring-loaded nozzle (loss on one side), belt clasp, and two lateral suspension rings. All metal parts with finely etched band and vine décor. Etched family coat of arms with the date "1597" on the surface of one cap. Height 23.5 cm. Gottfried of Bouillon, circa 1060 - 1100, took part in the First Crusade and became the first ruler of the newly founded Kingdom of Jerusalem. Highly idealized in the late Middle Ages and depicted as the "ideal knight".Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
