Description

Octagonal to round, smooth-bore barrel in 16.5 mm calibre. Applied brass rear sight, iron saddle rear sight. Gold-inlaid band decoration at the breech struck with barrel mark (lion with ball above P.L.I.M., Stöckel no. 695). Finely engraved lock depicting a drumming Eros, signed "P. Lienhart München" at the base. Slightly carved walnut full stock, finely engraved and chiselled brass mounts with traces of gold-plating. Engraved Bavarian coat of arms under a princely coronet on the thumb plate. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 53 cm. Paul Lienhart, originally from Passau, began his apprenticeship in Vienna in 1707. He can be traced as a gunsmith in Munich until around 1750.

Provenance: Georg Britsch, art dealer, including a certificate of authenticity and the original invoice from 2005 for 5,500 Euros.
