Blued octagonal, tapered barrel with seven-groove rifled bore in 14 mm calibre. Dovetailed gilt sights with engraved décor. The base of the barrel and the muzzle decorated with delicate gold-inlaid scrollwork. At the breech signature "Caspar Zelner" inlaid in gold. Engraved tang with number "1". Lock with slightly domed fire-gilt lock plate. Engraved hunting décor with signature "Caspar Zelner in Wienn". Lightly carved walnut full stock, patch box with spring-loaded lid. Furniture of fire-gilt brass lavishly decorated in relief on finely chiselled ground. Various hunting scenes between scrollwork. The escutcheon with coat of arms of the princes of Esterházy underneath a princely crown. Wooden ramrod with finely fullered tip of gilt brass. Length 72 cm. Caspar Zellner (1661 -1745) became master in 1695 and is recorded as gunsmith in Vienna and Salzburg. The princes of Esterházy rank among the most significant Hungarian magnate families. In 1687, Count Paul Esterházy was raised to princely rank by Emperor Leopold I in gratitude for his participation in the battle against the Turks.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
