Description

Sturdy, firmly interlaced steel prod, the manufacturer's stamp "J. Brutsche" showing twice on the upper, narrow edge. Hemp bowstring with protective windings. The bellied tiller made of finely grained wood, the top and bottom veneered in polished staghorn, trimmed with accompanying strips of reddish brown wood. The nut made of iron and secured with thread, multi-axle lock with two channels and release mechanism according to the principle of the German release. Folding trigger. The winding of the trigger guard and the lanyard of the prod made of red and white thread. The prod, anchors, string, nut, bolt channel, folding sight (aperture sight) and the wooden butt extension (stamped "23") all date from the late period of use. Slightly damaged in places, old repairs. Width of the bow 60 cm, total length 78 cm. Moreover, the crossbow includes the associated, approx. 36 cm, intact rack-and-pinion cranequin, the housing open at the top, three-spoke wheel, wooden handle, windlass, triangular pointer plate and belt hook. Complete crossbow of the half armour type with associated cranequin from a municipal Swiss crossbow shooting society, which used the weapon for many years and repeatedly repaired it. Similar crossbows can be found in the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.
