A short English cutlass with silver-damascened hilt, dated 1630

Description
Sturdy blade with sawback and double-edged point. On the reverse three struck unicorn marks. Both sides finely etched with flower ornaments, the obverse dated "1630". Iron knuckle-bow hilt with large guard plate on one side. Knuckle bow, quillons and guard plate decorated with geometrical ornaments inlaid in silver. Iron grip hollow-forged in two parts with stylised bird head pommel. Both sides decorated with finely cut mascarons amidst tendrils, base and pommel with raised silver inlays.
