Cal. 17,5 mm Blackpowder, SN. ohne, Blued over-and-under Damascus steel barrels with micro-groove rifling, on the upper barrel a small brass front sight, on the right side colour-case hardened ramrod pipe. Also colour-case hardened back-action locks, both with the maker’s mark “St. Etienne” on the lock plates. Finely grained, fluted wood grip, the pommel cap with a powder gauge compartment and spring-loaded lid. Iron ramrod fastened by a chain. Length 34 cm.One of the rarest weapons for French officers. High-ranking officers, who were often of noble descent, had to purchase their own equipment, and therefore most of the still existing pistols were made by civilian gunsmiths. The present pistol is therefore exceptionally rare, as it was made by the State Manufactory St. Etienne in exquisite quality.
