Description

Large silver statuette depicting a female nude holding the wreath of victory with swastika in her raised right hand. The plinth signed "Thorak" on the reverse, on the side mark of fineness "800" with crescent moon and crown, on the obverse "Nürnberg Reichsparteitag 1937". Height with replaced marble base approx. 92 cm.
Thorak designed the sculpture as part of a group of figures for the fountain behind the memorial of Luitpoldhain park on the terrain of the Nuremberg Reichsparteitag. Thorak presented the model cast in silver to Adolf Hitler on behalf of the NSDAP. Cf. "Reichstagung in Nürnberg - 1937 - Der Parteitag der Arbeit" p. 28/29 with illustration of the model of the fountain and the figure.
Presumably one of the most significant and still existing figures sculpted by Thorak due to its being cast in silver and its special provenance.

The auction includes 608 lots and starts on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020 at 10 am (CET). Lot no. 2001 - 2608. The pre-sale viewing will take place from Oct. 18 - 21 Oct., 2020 from 2 to 6 pm (CET). However, the number of participants for both auction and viewing is limited due to Covid-19 restrictions and requires an appointment. Bring your favourite breathing mask! Prior to any visit please check our website - we'll update it as soon as the situation changes.
