Description

In .585 white gold, with a cut diamond and 77 faceted, single cut diamonds in a pavé setting with a total of approximately 1.6 carats, together with 19 faceted, transparent sapphire carrées and three sapphire baguettes, for a total of around 4.1 carats. Clip patent fastener with a safety bar. Dimensions approx. 38 x 40 mm, total weight 10.71 g. In the original presentation case lined in velvet and silk, the jeweller's mark for the Deutsche Goldschmiede-Werkstätten, Berlin, "DGW" in the lid.
Includes a valuation issued in 2016, estimating the material value alone as between €6,000 and €6,500.
Moreover, comes with extensive documentation, such as the family register containing the marriage certificate of Erna Wendt (née Kupfernagel) to her second husband, SS-Oberscharführer Theo Steffen in 1944 and the birth certificate of her daughter Heidrun, her daughter's baptism certificate, featuring a child's drawing, dated 4.2.1944 and given to the godmother as "Emmi Göring", four portrait postcards (at least two from Rosemarie Clausen) with Emmy and the infant Edda Göring with Erna Wendt, Erna Wendt with her daughter Heidrun as a baby in Hermann Göring's chair and at the age of approx. four years, wearing one of Edda's dresses. A large-format photograph of Edda as a baby with a handwritten thank-you note from Emmy Göring (tr.) "For Erna, with many thanks for the gorgeous birthday present - Edda!". A handwritten Christmas card and envelope from Emmy Göring to the daughter Heidrun in 1972, two portrait cards from Edda Göring and a copy of a photograph of Emmy and Edda with Erna Wendt (Steffen) en route to Hermann Göring in Nuremberg in 1946 and other correspondence addressed to Erna Wendt. In addition, a copy of "Emmy Göring - An der Seite meines Mannes - Begebenheiten und Bekenntnisse" with a lengthy dedication from Emmy Göring to Erna Wendt on the frontispiece, dated 1967.

Provenance: Includes a certificate of provenance signed by Erna Wendt's daughter, dated 2016, with a separate notary's certification of her signature. In it, she confirms that her mother had been Emmy Göring's personal lady's maid in Obersalzberg since 1938 and had maintained a close friendship with her even after the war, with numerous reciprocal visits. The brooch was apparently given to Erna Wendt by Edda Göring on the birth of her daughter in 1944, (tr.) "along with instructions to pass the said brooch on to me in due course.".
