Description
Octagonal barrels with hexagonal bores in 15.7 mm calibre. The undersides with the signature "L.Sauerb." and stamped with the numbers "1." and "2." A proof mark on the tops between the breech and the barrel. Löbnitz breechloading system with internal ring hammers. Pistol stocks with iron furniture and extended tangs with locking points for shoulder stocks. Pistol no. 1 with minor chipping on the shaft and and slight movement in the locking mechanism. Length of each 43 cm. Associated saddle holster with cartridge cases. The leather adaptor of the holster pair with the saddle attachment has been lost. These pistols were probably used as temporary weapons by the Prussian border gendarmerie after 1864 as approx. 8 cm of the barrel has been sawn off and the Holstein gendarmerie identifier removed. As a result, the shoulder stock that was originally part of the pistol was no longer needed. Along with Valentin Sauerbrey, Ludwig Sauerbrey won a medal at the World Exposition in London in 1851. In cooperation with Valentin, he also produced the first needle rifles. In total, just 200 of these percussion pistols were made.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
