Description
Older Ottoman Damascus barrels in secondary use, probably Turkish booty, end of the 17th century. The round barrels with flattened midribs, the front half ridged. Silver cannon muzzles, finely rifled bores in 15 mm calibre. Embellished with arabesques inlaid in silver along the tops, brass-lined marks at the breeches. Delicately engraved locks with nipple protectors on rollers and small flash guards. Adjustable set triggers. Walnut full stocks with dark horn nosepieces, the butts adorned with fine chequering. Iron, engraved furniture. Wooden ramrods with dark horn tips, one end fashioned as a wad hook, the other as a bullet puller. Length of each 39.5 cm. Including the associated case of solid mahogany, a folding brass handle on the lid. Lockable, however the key is missing. The interior lined in green felt, containing extensive accessories such as a powder flask, powder measure, bullet mould, ramrod and cleaning rod with various attachments, spring compressor and screw driver. Dimensions 9 x 47.5 x 26 cm. Friedrich August Schossig is documented as a gunsmith in Hamburg circa 1820 to 1860.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
