Description

Puma of Solingen, approx. 1938. Nickel-plated blade with double fullers on both sides. On the ricasso struck maker’s mark "Puma Solingen" within a lozenge. The hilt of fire-gilt (partly rubbed) brass, the four-sided pommel with stylised oak leaf decoration in relief within arch-like cartouches. Special quillons with ends curved downwards, on the obverse national eagle, on the reverse fouled anchor and press button closure for the scabbard, each flanked by tendril décor in relief. Grip of white synthetic material with wire wrap. Green felt stopper. The scabbard with lightning-bolt decoration and ring bands in the shape of knots. Overall length 40.5 cm.
Pommel and quillons on the inside struck with number "11", the blade at the tang also with struck "11".
One of the rarest navy daggers, of which probably less than a dozen specimens still exist. Cf. Thomas T. Wittmann, Exploring the Dress Daggers of the German Navy, p. 358 f.
