Description

White summer coat (UV positive because of modern cleaning) with monogramm label "F F", affixed breast eagle, removable shoulder boards for an admiral (liner mothy), affixed EK1 (oxidised) of 1914. Buttons incomplete, ownership mark "Friedrich Frisisus - Seeoffizier 1913", small accessories laid-in loose. Also, a large wooden wall map of fortress Dunkirk with a situation map inside showing the individual bunkers and strong points, the gates with corresponding coloured titles, city coat of arms and belfry as well as the dedication (tr.) "To the Commandant of Fortress Dunkirk on the 6th Christmas Eve of the War 1944 - the 111th day of encirclement - wholeheartedly bestowed (by the) Pioneer Battalion". Dimensions ca. 101 x 116 cm. Other gifts from the Pioneer Battalion include a birthday metal box with brass fittings labelled (tr.) "Photos from Fortress Dunkirk", within a collection of loose pages with inscribed portraits and group photos of various units with their officers and pieces of a shipping box. Also, decorative sheets, best wishes letters and other mememtos of his birthday on 17 January, 1945 in Fortress Dunkirk. Further, two notebooks with handwritten records and letters, the military album of admiralty staff officer Commander Niemer, a "Weihnachtsbrief" 1945 to his soldiers and a list of the names of 70 men who were sentenced to death for desertion dated 7 May 1945.
Friedrich Frisius (1895 - 1970) was a Sea Cadet in 1913 (Crew 13) of the Imperial Navy and a Leutnant in 1915. In 1919 he was with the "Eisernen Flottille" and Naval Brigade von Loewenfeld, in 1920 Oberleutnant, 1925 a Kapitänleutnant, 1932 Korvettenkapitän, 1938 Kapitän zur See, and in 1942 a Konteradmiral and Commandant of Naval Defenses Pas de Calais. From 15 September 1944, he was Fortress Commander of the besieged city of Dunkirk, which held out to the end of the war. During the siege Frisius was awarded the German Cross in Gold and was promoted to Vice Admiral.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
