Slender thrusting blade of triangular section. Iron hilt with well-preserved original blackening. Wide, long quillons with side-ring on the obverse. Sturdy shell-guard with small trefoil piercing. Hilt arms with thumb ring on the reverse, long rain guard at the shoulder of the blade. Grip with iron ferrules, the rayskin cover held by four iron clamps. Bi-conical pommel with decorative incisions and tang button. Length 128 cm. Similar swords are attributed to the mounted division of the Saxon trabant lifeguards. It consisted of one hundred men on black horses. Their equipment included the well-known blackened and gilt morions. They wore black doublets with yellow breeches and stockings in the colours of the Dukes of Saxony. A similar dagger is part of the Kienbusch Collection in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, catalogue no. 351.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
