Description

Double-edged blade with flat fullers on both sides. The core consisting of three twisted forge-welded bars with edges attached at the sides. The lower third distinctly corroded with numerous breaches, the point flawed. Pointed oval quillons lightly curved towards the blade. Tapered tang with broad pagoda-shaped pommel. Length 85 cm.

Provenance: Acquired from a European art dealer in 2020, before that time in the Belgian Aeneas Merckx collection assembled between 1950 and 1980.

The pre-sale view will take place from April 22 - to April 26 as well as on Friday May 2nd and Monday May 5th in our auction rooms at Bretonischer Ring 3 in 85630 Grasbrunn / Munich from 11 am to 5 pm (CEST).
