Description
Heavy, two-piece skull with high turned comb. In the nape original riveted plume socket of iron. At the lower edge continuous lining rivets with decorative brass rosettes. Pointed, slanted brim with turned edge. Copiously covered with original cold-painting in gold colour, in the centre the Saxon coat of arms surrounded by scrollwork. The skull and brim equally decorated with tendrils. Darkened or rubbed in places. The inside with remnants of the original leather lining. Height 31 cm. Beautiful helmet in untouched original condition. It may be assumed that it was initially crafted for an officer of a small town guard in Saxony. It was probably modelled after the lavishly gilt helmets fashioned in Nuremberg for the well-known trabant guard of Elector Christian I of Saxony.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
