Heavy patinated bronze figure, the plinth signed "Nicolaus Schmidt". A blacksmith wearing an apron stands with legs spread, a sledgehammer in his upraised arms. Signs of age and use. Total height 82 cm. The gifted and academically educated sculptor Nicolaus Schmidt received the Rome Prize in 1913.
