Description
The octagonal, blued barrel slightly constricted in the middle with seven-groove rifled bore in 15 mm calibre. Dovetailed sights with folding rear sight. Finely chiselled décor on a gold background at the breech and at the muzzle. Depiction of a female hunter carrying a rifle, next to a gold-lined plaque with the engraved coat of arms of the house of Württemberg. The lock with chased embellishment and gold-inlaid banner bearing the signature "Dargenta Ludwigsburg". The lavishly carved full stock in walnut with finely chiselled and engraved furniture in fire-gilt brass. Depiction of hunters and game amidst floral tendrils. The butt with patch box. The wooden ramrod with brass tip. Length 120 cm. According to the consignor, the shotgun was originally part of the personal possessions of Princess Elisabeth Friederike Sophie of Brandenburg, first wife of Karl Eugen, Duke of Württemberg. Philipp Daniel Dargent (1690 - 1761) was born in Mömpelgard (Montbéliard). From 1729, he served as gunsmith to the Württemburg court in Ludwigsburg.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
