Description
Patinated bronze. The Kaiser is portrayed in uniform on horseback, inspecting one of the battlefields of the Franco-Prussian War. The Kaiser with a helmet and long overcoat, pointing to the side with his right hand, holding the reins in his left. As the horse strides out, its mane is ruffled by the wind. Broken military equipment and a fallen French standard on the plinth. The plinth signed "A. Herzig 1879". The bridle broken, the scabbard bent, a sizeable crack on the right upper arm. Height 63 cm, length 64 cm, weight 38 kg. August Albert Theodor Herzig (* 3. August 1846 in Hamburg; † 11. Juli 1919 in Dresden) was a German sculptor. He started his studies at the Hamburg School of Crafts in 1865. From 1872 to 1875, he studied at the Dresden Art Academy under Ernst Julius Hähnel and Johannes Schilling. In addition to monuments and statues for public squares in German cities, such as Darmstadt and Hamburg, he designed various figures of artists for the Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
