High skull made of coarse, black leather (the two halves stitched together at the crown) with gilt brass fittings (abraded, tarnished), the visors attached separately. A griffon emblem below a crown in fine relief at the front, a raised "R" on the oval shield. A wreath of oak leaves around the bottom. High, screw-mounted comb with a black horsehair plume. The chinscales with leather underlay on circular, iron rosettes. The black leather liner in good condition. The original wearer's name "Bittmann" handwritten in ink. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age and wear. Rare helmet in the style of the Baden dragoon helmet.Provenance: Part of the Ensch-Famenne collection.
