A Dutch or Flemish cup-hilt rapier with chiselled decoration, mid-17th century

Description

Slender thrusting blade of flattened diamond section, narrow fuller on both sides of the forte. Robust ricasso struck with multiple fleur-de-lys marks. Flat cup hilt with embossed and chiselled décor on gilt base. Decorated with cavalry battle scenes between trophy bundles. Straight, long, spirally twisted quillons. Original grip bound with fine brass wire and Turk's heads. Chiselled iron pommel with ambilateral depiction of horsemen on gilt base. Length 122 cm.
