A fine German medieval sword with coat of arms and inscription, circa 1100 - 1150

Description

Sturdy, double-edged blade, the long fullers on both sides with corrosion perforations here and there. Brass-inlaid escutcheon on one side with linden leaves arranged in a trefoil. A long, abbreviated inscription in Gothic capital letters in the groove, some of the brass inlays have been lost. The other side undecorated. Straight, extended quillons of square cross-section. Narrow, slightly tapered tang, the pommel in the shape of a flattened Brazil nut. Length 107 cm.
