A large silver-mounted Greek yatagan set with corals, circa 1820

Description

Typically curved, single-edged blade with shallow fullers on both sides. Embellished with lavish gold inlays, two large calligraphic cartouches on the reverse. Silver ferrule with filigree and coral cabochons on both sides. Faceted grip of sheet silver decorated with filigree and set with numerous corals. Wooden scabbard with a sheath of raised nickel-silver, the locket worked in silver and decorated with ostentatious filigree. The upper edge of the locket is loose, in need of repair. The scabbard with an old, well-restored repair in the centre. Length 79 cm.
