Marmorkopf des Dionysos, römisch,
1. - 2. Jhdt.
Der jugendliche Dionysos mit Pausbacken,
tief liegenden Augen und kräftigen Lidrän-
dern. Der Mund ist zu einem sanften Lächeln
geformt, mit dicken Grübchen auf der Seite.
Ein kettenförmiges Haarband hält die Efeu-
blätter und Korymben, die bis über die Ohren
reichen. Das Haar sonst in der Mitte geschei-
telt. Die glatte Rückseite weist auf ein Her-
menfragment hin, das den oberen Abschluss
eines Pfeilers (Tischbein?) bildete. Vgl. J.

neum“, S. 314-315. Gesockelt. Fehlstelle am
linken Kopfteil, Nase und Kinn mit kleine-
ren Ergänzungen. Höhe 12,8 cm, mit Sockel
21 cm.

A Roman marble head of Dionysus,
1st – 2nd century
Dionysus portrayed as a youth, with chubby
cheeks, deeply set eyes and prominent eyelids.
A slight smile playing about his mouth, with
pronounced dimples at the side. A chain-like
hair wreath supporting the ivy leaves and
corymbs that trail down over his ears. His
hair otherwise parted down the middle. The
smooth rear side indicates a herm fragment
that formed the upper part of a pillar (possibly
a table leg?).
