Omphalos, der von kreisrundem Punktdekor
und einem Strichband umgeben ist. Das äuße-
re Punktband dient als Grundlinie für den
eigentlichen Fries mit vier fein gearbeiteten
Hirschen mit langen Ohren und prachtvollen
Geweihen. Die Körper punktiert. Zwischen
den Hirschen Bäume mit langen Ästen und
großen Früchten. Unter dem Rand ein wei-
teres Schraffurband. Eindrucksvolles Gefäß
aus einem aristokratischen Haushalt. Selten.
Außen am Boden Korrosionsstellen und eine
kleine, kaum sichtbare Restaurierung, sonst
intakt. Durchmesser 19,7 cm.
Provenienz: Aus österreichischem Kunst-
handel. Ehedem US-Privatsammlung aus den
1980er Jahren. Christie’s New York am 6. De-
zember 2007, Los 541. Danach französische
Privatsammlung.
A Phoenician bronze libation bowl,
8th - 6th century B.C.
Hammered bronze bowl with a slightly thi-
ckened rim and a central, bevelled omphalos,
surrounded by circular point decorations and
a linear border. The outer border of beads ser-
ves as the base line for the actual frieze, with
four delicately worked stags with long ears and
magnificent antlers. The bodies covered in
dots. The stags stand between trees with long
branches, bearing large fruit. Another band
of cross-hatching below the rim. Impressive
vessel from an aristocratic house. Rare. Spots
of corrosion on the exterior of the base and a
small, barely visible restoration, otherwise in-
tact. Diameter 19.7 cm.
