Blackened grip, leather cover missing. The
back of the grip made of brass in relief with
lion’s head pommel. Ethiopian scabbard of
tooled, red leather with delicately engraved
openwork brass furniture. Length 107 cm.
The Egyptian garrison Gallabad was evacu-
ated in 1885 with the help of the Ethiopian
General Ras Alula after having been isolated
by enemy troops during the Mahdi Uprising.
