Conte Ing. Antonio Maria Farini (1902-90) –
a uniform estate, World War II
Uniform tunic in the rank of lieutenant made
of blue-grey gabardine with gold-braided
sleeves, gold buttons with eagle symbol in
relief underneath a crown, field clasp, green-
grey lining of artificial silk, inside the collar
tailor’s label “L. Beretta & C.” with wearer’s
name “Ten Farini Antonio” and date “1941”.
Comes with a pair of blue-grey cotton trou-
sers with black buttons of synthetic material
by “Beretta” and aforementioned tailor’s
label with wearer’s name “Ten Farini Anto-
nio” and date “1942”. Also two blue-grey uni-
form tunics in the rank of captain, one with
breeches labelled “Farini”. Furthermore, a
white cotton summer overall (stained) with
yellow sleeve stripes for a captain, a two-piece
summer combination, also with zips and
sleeve stripes for a captain. Also included are
two white summer jackets, each with a pair of
trousers. Furthermore, an olive-green uni-
form tunic (minor flaws) for wear in the colo-
nies, a brown-green winter combination with
two padded pairs of trousers, an ochre-col-
oured tropical uniform and a life jacket.
Slightly damaged in parts, traces of age.
Conte Ing. Antonio Maria Farini was born
from the family of Luigi Carlo Farini, a
renowned architect of the Risorgimento.
After having trained as a pilot and obtained a
pilot’s licence, he took part in the Spanish
Civil War and in 1938 was elected President
of the Aero Club Turin, a function he held
until 1946. During World War II, he served in
the C.A. I. (Italian Air Corps) in Belgium.
After that, he participated in military actions
in Greece and Tunisia. In April 1943, he was
seriously wounded by an attack near Sicily,
but nevertheless managed to save the aircraft
and its crew with a crash landing.
