Provenienz: Alter Bestand der Sammlung Burg Trausnitz in Lands-

hut. Dort beim Brand des Fürstenbaus 1961 beschädigt und an den

Kunsthandel abgegeben. Zuletzt Sammlung Biedermann in Schwaben.

A southern German knightly sword with bronze pommel,

1st half of the 15th century

Double-edged Passau blade, the upper half with flat fullers on both

sides. One side with remnants of Passau wolf mark, on the opposite side

leaping unicorn with remnants of copper inlay. Square quillons lightly

curved towards the blade with slightly bevelled edges. Well-replaced,

stepped grip with leather cover above cord wrap. Polygonal bronze

pommel cracked on one side. Length 110 cm.

rovenance

Old inventory of the collection of Trausnitz Castle in

Landshut. Damaged there in the fire at the princes’ palace in 1961 and

handed over to an art dealer. Most recently part of the Biedermann Coll-

ection in Swabia.
