An Indian jewelled khanjar with a rock crystal
grip, 20th century
The slightly curved, double-edged blade of
wootz-Damascus, with a reinforced point
and a leaf-shaped, chiselled medial ridge on
each side. The mounting of the grip and blade
both in green enamelled gold, lavishly set with
cabochons of rubies and emeralds. The grip
made of rock crystal, the flared pommel and
the base encrusted with rubies, emeralds and a
table-cut diamond, all edged in gold. Leather-
covered, wooden scabbard, the chape made of
green enamelled silver, both sides embellished
with a ruby set in gold. Length 46.7 cm.
