Im oberen Drittel ein Gorgoneion in Frontalansicht mit Kopfflügeln und dichten, seitlich herabfallenden Locken, unter denen zwei am Halsansatz verknotete Schlangen hervortreten. Das Feld füllen drei Reihen blattförmiger Ägisschuppen, die zum Rand hin an Größe zunehmen. Oberfläche mit altersgemäßem Abrieb des Engobeüberzugs; Reste originaler rosafarbener und blauer Bemalung in den Vertiefungen erhalten, Relief intakt. Ausgesprochen schönes und selten gut erhaltenes Meisterwerk der Keramikproduktion der Magna Graecia. Durchmesser 17 cm. KULTURGUT! Provenienz: Französische Privatsammlung. Terracotta with white engobe or slip coating and remnants of polychrome pigment. Tondo edged with bead and reel ornaments. In the upper third, a Gorgoneion from the front with wings on either side of the head and thick curls tumbling to the side, beneath which two serpents emerge, intertwined at the base of the neck. The field is filled with three rows of leafshaped aegis scales, increasing in size towards the edge. The abrasion of the slip coating on the surface consistent with its age; remnants of original pink and blue painting preserved in the hollows, the relief intact. Exceptionally fine and unusually well preserved ceramic masterpiece of Magna Graecia. Diameter 17 cm. CULTURAL ASSET! Provenance: Private French collection.
