| 27 A trial carbine based on the “Lange Schützenkarabiner” (long carbine for infantrymen) Smooth-bore barrel in 17.5 mm calibre, slight- ly overpolished marking “Oberndorf” and the year “1824” on the breech, acceptance mark and number “451” on the left. A converted roll- er-lock for amorces, a so-called “Bahnlock” with internal actuator, the maker’s name half covered by the conversion on the lock plate. Walnut stock with iron furniture, staple with one carbine ring on the left. On the top of the butt-stock an old label with the ink inscription “A.L.133”. Length 115 cm. InWurtemberg the military began experiment- ing with a percussion ignition system to im- prove the weapons used by the army. At first pellet primers were used rather than percus- sion caps. These trials brought forth the roller lock and the “Bahnschloss” incorporated into this rifle. While both lock types proved to be quite reliable, the latter one even more so, they were both too complex and costly to make. As of 1827 the percussion cap took over. 266631 II € 2.500 4012
