Proof-marked eagle/N. Made entirely of steel. Large trigger guard. Double-action trigger. Plate for safety lever mechanism fitted into the grip. Marked on the left side of the breechblock “G/Gustloff-Werke/Waffenwerk Suhl”, on the right at the barrel root “Cal. 7,65”. Original bluing with signs of wear at the edges, thinner at the grip. Dark walnut grip panels with fine chequer- ing, on the left with logo. Magazine number 169. The Gustloff pistol was developed in 1939 at Fritz Sauckel’s (Gau­ leiter of Thuringia) instigation. Sauckel was the founder and head of the Gustloff-Werke foundation, the former Simson Werke in Suhl. The weapon unites reliable technical elements of the Walther PP with the Sauer & Sohn Mod. 38. It was to be introduced as NSDAP and SS service pistol, but did not survive the trial phase. The few known existing weapons are all of different technical workmanship and are partially made from different materials. C f .
