Bergmann founded his own company “Berg- mann’s Industriewerke Gaggenau” in 1893. The pistol model 1894, which was constructed by Schmeißer but was patented under Berg- mann’s name, was supposed to be his intro- duction to the arms production. For technical reasons they had to be made at V.C. Schilling in Suhl. Around 1896/97, the newly founded arms department at Bergmann’s factory was able to produce the models 1896 on its own.
